Candace Magnuson, LMT,

NASM-CPT, CAS, Reiki Master

I am an Idaho Licensed Massage Therapist who has practiced since 2007 and specializes in chronic pain, migraines, and rehabilitation. In treating over a thousand different people, I have addressed pain from auto, farm and other accidents, athletic and traumatic injuries, scar tissue from surgery, arthritis, stress, PTSD, autoimmune disorders, repetitive motion syndromes, and more. I keep my memory of muscular and skeletal anatomy refreshed and have deeply studied the body-wide system of fascia that connects every structure of the body. These give me a global lens for understanding tension and pain patterns.

I completed certification as a Personal Trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine and over 300 hours of combined training, observation, and practice in Pilates with Body Arts and Science International and the Athletics and Fitness Association of America. Additionally, I have spent hundreds of hours studying and practicing calisthenics, primal, natural, and functional movement systems, hatha yoga, and resistance training with small weights, a suspension system and heavy clubs.

It is my firm belief based on thousands of hours of combined clinical observation, study, and practice that strength training using weight machines and barbells leads to disastrous consequences. True mobility is not built through single-plane weighted movements and static stretching; it is developed through increasing challenges of multi-plane joint mobilization and instability. If you can’t squat all the way down, butt to heels, with your arms straight above your head and back straight (no anterior pelvic tilt—sticking your butt out), you should not be squatting with weight.

I help people understand the interconnectedness of all the body’s structures and how tension in one area of the body can create pain in another far from it. I emphasize that developing the small unseen muscles far outweighs the need to bulk up the big, visible prime mover muscles when it comes to long-term strength and optimal function. I encourage multi-plane movement patterns that build a foundation of stability, alignment, and joint mobility. This foundation creates injury resistance and freedom in all activities and athletics. Learn to move before learning your sport!

Since beginning my personal journey in the latter 1990s, I have explored healing and spiritual teachings from across time and around the world and tested in the laboratory of my own body a wide range of dietary and supplement strategies. I have become deeply rooted in the teachings of Jesus and the Vedas and have maintained consistent meditation practice for more than 10 years. I have earned three certifications as an Ayurvedic Practitioner and was one-on-one mentored and initiated into the practice of Reiki for 5 years.

Through personal experience I know the introspection, research, experimentation, observation, adaptation, patience, and persistence through inertia and setbacks required to truly heal oneself and not simply mask or mitigate symptoms. In that process I healed all aspects of my life including my mind, gut, skin, and musculoskeletal alignment. At 50+ years old I hike, commute and mountain bike, barefoot run, and Nordic ski.
